This morning at 4:30 am, Owen Sound Police responded to a complaint of a theft of a motor vehicle from a driveway in the100 block of 4 th Avenue 'A' East. The owner of the vehicle had been shoveling his driveway throughout the day and evening after he finally retired, he went to bed leaving the keys in the vehicle and the shovel nearby.
Police investigated the theft and were able to determine that the suspect(s) used the shovel that was left behind by the owner and completed digging the vehicle out of the heavy snow. The red coloured 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan was then driven away with a number of their Christmas items onboard.
Those items include a two foot tall Santa ornament, a black and white Lululemon® bag containing clothing and a religious Christmas nativity scene.
The Ontario licence plate on the vehicle is # CAFS 109. The whereabouts of the vehicle are unknown at this time. We ask that if you see the vehicle, do not approach it and call 9-1- 1 immediately.
On Wednesday December 14, 2016 the Owen Sound Police Service launched their 'Lock It or Lose It' campaign in partnership with police agencies across Ontario. We encourage citizens to protect their vehicle, personal identification and parcels by following a few key crime prevention tips:
1) Always hide or conceal your personal property and parcels from plain sight
2) Always lock your vehicle
3) Park your vehicle in well lit areas
