Owen Sound, ON – Larry Miller, MP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, is looking for answers from Transport Canada in light of the recent closure of the vehicle gate at the south end on the east side of the Owen Sound harbour.
Mr. Miller has been informed that yesterday officials from Transport Canada closed and locked the vehicle entrance at the south end on the east side of the harbour. Miller wants the public to know that he is aware of this issue and will be probing Transport Canada for answers on their intentions going forward.
Miller believes the closure to be in response to a request he made to Transport Canada: "I believe that the locking of the gates is in response to my request to have the road on the east side of the harbour graded. I submitted this request just a couple of weeks ago."
"I am very concerned about what Transport Canada plans to do in regards to vehicle and pedestrian access to the harbour front," said Miller. "I have contacted Transport Canada and have only been given vague answers to my concerns. We have the Salmon Spectacular coming up in late August with the harbour front being a focal point of this event. Work needs to be done to fix this road; we can't simply close it off."
Miller has contacted Transport Canada but has not been given satisfactory answers as to whether this closure could include barring the public from the north end as well as the closure of the pedestrian gate at the south end of the harbour.
