TIVERTON – The return of summer bus tours to the Bruce Power site has been a huge success, the nuclear operator says.

Due to high demand and limited seating on the buses, Bruce Power said in a news release, it is adding two more tours per week for the month of August. Tours will be available at 1 and 2 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays next month.

"Being the world's largest operating nuclear site and the area's largest employer means there is a lot of public curiosity about Bruce Power," said James Scongack, Vice President, Corporate Affairs, in a news release. "The public interest in the tours has exceeded our expectations, and we're happy to educate even more people about our site this summer."

The one-hour tours, which leave from the Visitors' Centre on Bruce Rd. 20 (Conc. 4), include a view of Douglas Point, Canada's first commercial-sized nuclear plant, a drive past the multi-unit Bruce A and Bruce B nuclear stations, which generate about a third of Ontario's electricity, and a number of extensive security elements that protect both stations.

Bruce Power recommends you pre-register for a tour by calling the Visitors' Centre at 519-361-7777 or emailing [email protected], though walk-ons are welcome if space is available. You must bring official, government-issued photo identification, for example a driver's license or passport, to ensure security clearance before boarding the bus. Children without photo identification can be verified by parent or guardian.
