Storm cloudsAfter a thundering response from the community, the CANWARN Storm Spotter Training is moving to a larger venue. The April 5 event will now take place at the Quality Inn, 950 6th Street East in Owen Sound, across the road from the Grey County Administration Building. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. and run until 9:00 p.m.

"We're blown away by the interest in this training session. Seats were filled in a flash and we've been flooded with calls ever since," said Rob Hatten, Communications Manager. "More residents want an opportunity to participate and we're going to make that happen."

Up to 250 people can now register for the event through a link on Grey.ca or by calling Grey County at 519-372-0219 ext. 1814.

The County will be contacting everyone registered to let them know about the new location.

"Anyone who contacted us after the original seats were filled was added to a waitlist. We will be following up with them over the next few days to get them registered," added Hatten.

CANWARN Storm Spotter volunteers provide valuable, real-time, on-the-ground information to Environment Canada during severe weather. Environment Canada holds a series of training sessions across the province each spring to refresh the knowledge of existing volunteers and welcome new ones.
