opp-car-fullMELANCTHON TOWNSHIP – On, July 24, 2014, at 12:47 P.m., a Grey County OPP officer along the 7th Line of Melancthon Township saw a red Ford Explorer that had been reported stolen. The officer activated the cruiser emergency lighting, but the driver ignored the police vehicle and continued on into a driveway where he stopped the vehicle and ran into a wooded area.
West Region OPP Emergency Response Team members and a West Region Canine (K9) officer were called to assist in searching for the driver. He was eventually, located in a barn, on a Grey Road 9 property.
33 year old Kevin Barbosa of Melancthon Township has been charged with flight from police, drive while disqualified, possession of stolen property over $5,000, two counts of possess a controlled substance and fail to comply with probation. He was held in custody pending the results of a show cause hearing scheduled for July 25, 2014.
Roadside diaper dumper sought
HURON TOWNSHIP – On July 25, 2014 at 11:45 am, the South Bruce OPP received a littering report from a resident of Huron Township. Since June 1, 2014 soiled depends undergarments and soiled diapers have been found in Point Clark area ditches.
Section 86 of the Environmental Protection Act prohibits littering; "No person shall abandon any material in a place, manner, receptacle or wrapping such that it is reasonably likely that the material will become litter." On conviction, a first time violator faces a fine of up to $1,000.
Pedestrians hurt
KINCARDINE – On July 22 at 2:06 pm, the South Bruce OPP were called to a pedestrian involved collision at the intersection of Queen and Lambton streets in Kincardine. Officers arrived with Bruce County paramedics to find that pedestrians were crossing Queen as a Black GMC Sierra was turning onto the street from Lambton St. The pedestrians were taken to hospital where they were treated and released for minor injuries. The investigation is continuing.
Bicycle thief strikes
WALKERTON – On July 22, 2014 at 9:48 am, South Bruce OPP received a report of a bike theft from behind Marlin Travel along Durham St. E. in Walkerton. Sometime between 1:00 pm on July 21, 2014 and 5:30 pm on July 21, 2014 a Silver Norco Bushpilot Mountain bike was taken. The value of the stolen bike is estimated to be $500. The serial number is on file with police.
Pump goes missing
BRANT TOWNSHIP – On July 24, 2014 at 8:55 am, South Bruce OPP received a report of an overnight theft from Sprucedale Agromart located along Side road 25 North in Brant Township. Sometime between 12:00 am on July 24, 2104 and 1:30 am on July 24, 2014, a Red Honda GX160 water pump and a Red 10L gas can with fuel were taken. The value of the stolen items is estimated to be more than $940.
