The Owen Sound Police Service have arrested and charged a 60 year old Owen Sound man with the offences of Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Operate a Motor Vehicle with over 80mgs of Alcohol.
Just before 8:30 p.m. on Friday, March 31st, citizens called police to report a driver who had just backed into a parked vehicle in the 1700 block of 4th Avenue East. When he attempted to leave, citizens shouted at the driver, eventually convincing him to park his motor vehicle. Concerned the driver may attempt again to drive; the complainant removed the vehicle keys and prevented access of the keys to the driver.
Police responded and formed the opinion that the driver's ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by the consumption of alcohol. The man was taken into custody and returned to Owen Sound Police Services to provide samples of his breath to a qualified technician. The man's breath samples were over 3 times the legal limit. Empty alcohol containers were present in the vehicle.
The accused has been released pending a court appearance next week. His vehicle was impounded by police. Damage to the involved vehicles is minor.
The Owen Sound Police Service wishes to thank the involved citizens. In this instance, their actions may have prevented a tragic event.
