At their regular meeting of March 29th, 2017, Council of the Municipality of Grey Highlands unanimously passed the following resolution:
17 - 70
Halliday – Mokriy
WHEREAS Long Term Care (LTC) provides complex care; and
WHEREAS demographics predict a steady increase in the population over seventy-five (75) years of age; and
WHEREAS Grey County has fewer long term beds for people over seventy five (75) years of age than the average in the South West LHIN; and
WHEREAS the merger of two (2) LTC homes to create one (1) facility with 166 beds would provide operational efficiency but will create a loss of LTC service in the area where the facility is being closed; and
WHEREAS Grey County's stated purpose in their Strategic Plan is that the County "is committed to the coordinated delivery of responsive and costeffective
services that strengthen the economic, social, environmental, and cultural wellbeing of the diverse communities it serves"; and
WHEREAS local municipal governments are in the best position to know what their respective communities are asking for and need; and
WHEREAS the feedback that Grey Highlands Council has had from its citizens is to "please maintain Grey Gables", which this Council supports;
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED That Council of the Municipality of Grey Highlands hereby declares that it favours the continuation of Grey Gables as a Long Term Care facility and supports the refurbishing or new build for Rockwood Terrace; and
THAT Council respectfully asks our municipal partners to support this strategy; and
THAT a copy of the resolution be circulated to all Grey County Municipalities, MP Larry Miller, MPP Bill Walker, MPP Jim Wilson and asking that a copy of their supporting resolutions be forwarded to the Warden of Grey County and copied to the Municipality of Grey Highlands.
