At approximately 10:30 am, Owen Sound Police, Fire and EMS responded to the report of a male pedestrian being struck by a vehicle. The pedestrian was crossing southbound within the cross walk at the intersection of 10th Street West at 3rd Avenue West. The driver of the motor vehicle was in the process of making a left turn from 3rd Avenue West onto 10th Street West when the vehicle struck the pedestrian. The male pedestrian was transported by EMS for what are believed to be non- life threatening injuries. Charges against the 68 year old male Kincardine driver are pending.
The collision required the westbound lanes in the 300 block of 10th Street West to be closed for approximately 1 hour while police investigated. Police thank the numerous witnesses to this incident who remained in the area to provide police with information.
During this time, numerous motorists drove around pylons and emergency vehicles that were put in place to divert traffic. Police remind motorists to slow down and proceed with caution when approaching emergency vehicles with their lights activated. Drivers that fail to do so could face fines in excess of $400 under the Highway Traffic Act.
