bruce peninsulaThe Bruce Peninsula becomes the 68th community in Canada to achieve the Safe Communities designation with Parachute Canada.

A celebration to mark the designation of Bruce Peninsula as a Safe Community is set for 1:00 pm, June 14, 2017 at the Ferndale OPP Satellite detachment / Ferndale Information Centre Pavilion. Representatives from Parachute Canada, OPP and the Bruce Peninsula Safe Communities Committee will be in attendance along with Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker, South Bruce Peninsula Mayor Janice Jackson and Northern Bruce Peninsula Mayor Milt McIvor. A choir from Bruce Peninsula District School will also be in attendance. To recognize this designation, a special Safe Communities key and certificate will be presented to the committee. Light refreshments will be served. Everyone is invited to attend.

The Bruce Peninsula Safe Communities Committee has been working since the spring of 2014 to meet the requirements of a designated community. To date, the committee has offered "We Love the Way You Drive" initiatives that have focused on promoting safe driving. The committee, along with the Community Policing Committee, has also offered bicycle safety rodeos at all of the Peninsula schools. Currently, the committee is involved with water safety initiatives and offering baby-sitting safety courses.
