On July 13, 2017 at approximately 10:23 p.m., Bruce Peninsula Ontario Provincial Police, together with Bruce County Emergency Services (EMS), Grey County Emergency Services (EMS) and Town of South Bruce Peninsula Fire Department, responded to a serious collision involving a 2008 Lifan LS 150 dirt- bike and a pedestrian on Elm Street near Brown Street in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula (Wiarton).

Investigation revealed that the dirt-bike was traveling west bound on Elm Street when the operator lost control of the bike and struck the pedestrian. The dirt-bike did not have lights and was not licensed for use on public roads.

The operator of the dirt-bike, a 22-year old male and the pedestrian, an 81-year old male, sustained life threatening injuries. They were transported via ambulance to local hospital and then were both air-lifted to hospitals in Toronto. Both victims are from the Town of South Bruce Peninsula.

The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene and is assisting with the investigation which is ongoing.

Elm Street was closed to traffic for several hours.
