diver-fullOn August 20, 2017 at approximately 9:43 a.m., Bruce Peninsula Ontario Provincial Police received a report of an unresponsive male aboard the RCC Trenton vessel in Big Tub Harbour, Tobermory, in Northern Bruce Peninsula.

The male was transported to the Tobermory Medical Centre where he was pronounced deceased. He has been identified as 66-year old Michael Maxwell of Southfield, Michigan, USA.

The deceased was one of nine divers from a Michigan scuba diving club who had been exploring the Niagara II Shipwreck site east of Little Cove in Georgian Bay. The victim was ascending when he went into medical distress.

A post-mortem examination was scheduled for August 21/22, 2017 in Owen Sound.

RCC Trenton and Grey-Bruce Paramedic Services assisted at the scene.
