Motorists involved in collisions after driving around road closed sign.
The Owen Sound Police responded to two separate motor vehicle collisions on Monday evening (September 11th) on a section of road that had been closed due to construction. At least two drivers disregarded the road closure signs leading to the 2000 block of 8th Street East in the city which was only open to local traffic (residence living along the closed road). Unfortunately, for both of these drivers their errors in judgement lead them to colliding with construction materials which resulted in extensive damage to both vehicles.
The first collision occurred around 8:30 p.m. with the impact to the 2003 Saturn setting the vehicles air bags off. The 56 year old female driver was taken to the Grey Bruce Health Service by ambulance where she was treated and later released.
The second collision occurred around 11:15 p.m. when the 89 year old man drove his 2008 Chev Equinox into a large pile of gravel. Luckily neither the driver nor his passenger was injured.
Both drivers were charged under the Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act.
Although many drivers find closed roads a major inconvenience in their commute these roads under construction are closed for good reason. Disregarding "Road Closed" signs may not only result in being charged by police, but as these two drivers experienced you could end up with a very expensive repair bill and a much bigger inconvenience then if you had just detoured.
