GEORGIAN BLUFFS – On Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at approximately 9:20 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a phone call from a hiker requesting assistance after she had become disoriented and wasn't able to find her way off the trail before it became dark.
Through communicating with the hiker, and the use of her cell phone GPS, OPP officers operating ATVs were able to locate the hiker on the Grey Sauble Conservation Trail, approximately 1 ½ kms northwest of Hwy. 6 & 10, in the Township of Georgian Bluffs.
The lone hiker, a 61 year old woman from Vancouver, B.C., was found in good health and returned to the Bed & Breakfast, where she was staying.
Hiking is a healthy and favourite outdoor activity for many people in Grey County and, although this incident had a positive outcome, police would like the opportunity to encourage hikers to always hike in the company of another person or persons; wear the proper clothing/gear, carry a charged cell phone, and let someone know of your destination and estimated time of return.
