This weekend the Owen Sound Police Service joins a national traffic enforcement and education initiative for our city. We continuously work towards reducing traffic related injuries and saving lives on our city streets. Educating the public in safe driving practices is a priority.
Our focus will be on behaviours that put drivers, passengers, pedestrians and other road users most at risk:
-Impaired Driving by Alcohol or Drugs
-Distracted Driving
-Aggressive Driving
-Dangerous /Careless Operation of a Motor Vehicle
-Excessive Speed
-Failure to Wear or; Wear Seatbelts Improperly
We collaborate because we know that driving is multi-jurisdictional, meaning that many people drive from city to city this week-end and a consistent educational and enforcement message on radio, traditional print and social media will help us reach our citizens and visitors.
This initiative has been strategically chosen, as it is a significant long weekend. More people are traveling and traffic crashes are more frequent.
Operation Impact is sponsored by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) and member agencies of the CACP Traffic Committee from across Canada in support of Canada's Road Safety Strategy 2025, which has a goal of making Canada's roads the safest in the world.
