On November 1, 2017 at approximately 12:54 a.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police received a report of a vehicle on fire as a result of a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 6 in the Township of Chatsworth which ended in the arrest of an impaired driver.
Investigation revealed that the lone female driver was operating a 2016 Toyota RAV4 southbound on Highway 6 near Moto Park Road when she lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle entered the east ditch of the highway and caught fire after colliding with a fence and a tree. A northbound motorist, who noticed the fire, stopped to see if anyone was with the vehicle. It was then that he discovered a female yelling inside. The good Samaritan, a 38-year old Chatsworth man, pulled the female, and two dogs, out of the vehicle to safety.
Police arrived at the scene at 1:04 a.m. and found the vehicle fully engulfed. The Chatsworth Fire Department and Grey County Paramedic Services attended. There were no injuries reported.
The driver, who had been drinking alcohol, was arrested for impaired driving and transported to the Chatsworth OPP Detachment for breath tests which she failed. Test results indicated her alcohol level was more twice the legal limit.
33-year old Andrea Jenings of the Township of Chatsworth was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in her system.
She is scheduled to appear in court on November 16, 2017.
