The Owen Sound Police on Monday evening just before midnight received a call from the grandparents of a 16 year old boy advising that their grandson had left their residence around 10:30 p.m. with their vehicle without their permission. The teenager had only had his G1 licence for the short period of 10 days. As officers searched for the young male they were updated by the grandparents that he had returned safely back home on his own.

Officers attended the west side residence to investigate the incident further and found that the 16 year old had been driving under the influence of alcohol. The teen was arrested and by law was compelled to provide samples of his breath into an approved instrument to determine the concentration of alcohol in his blood. The results showed that young male had been driving his grandparent's vehicle well in excess of the legal limit of 80mgs and considering his age a young driver is to have no alcohol in their blood when behind the steering wheel of a motor vehicle.

The teen will appear in court in December on the charges of driving with over 80mgs of alcohol in his blood, take motor vehicle without consent and two counts failing to comply with conditions of his probation orders. His licence has also initially been suspended for a period of 90 days.
