The Men's Program of Owen Sound is announcing plans for three men's gatherings to follow up the Know Me(n) Better forum held last November. The evening sessions will offer men an opportunity to share personal stories and explore common ground.
The November event was a full day forum for local men and service providers to speak about men's experiences and struggles. Organizers are planning the follow up sessions in response to community requests for more spaces where men can talk about the things they struggle with individually and together, as well as what they can do to make positive change.
Men's Program supervisor Joachim Ostertag said that the November 8th Know Me(n) Better event generated many areas of discussion and that he hopes this series will build on that momentum.
"At the first event in November, through presentations and discussions, we explored many aspects of men's lives, and participants came up with a list of suggestions for further conversations. We're hosting these three evening discussions to get a better idea of what men want to talk about so we can hopefully set up a monthly meeting series starting in the fall," he said.
The Know Me(n) Better gatherings will take place in the Christie Hare rooms at the Bayshore Community Centre in Owen Sound on Wednesday April 18, May 16, and June 13, 2018. The meetings will run from 7-9pm. Entrance is free and donations are welcome to help cover the cost of the space.
