The Owen Sound Police Service have laid charges with respect to the theft of a motor vehicle that occurred on September 21, 2014, during the early morning hours, from an east side residence in the city.
Prior to being reported stolen the vehicle was observed by members of the Bruce Peninsula OPP who attempted to stop the vehicle for a Highway Traffic Offence. The vehicle accelerated away from police at a high rate of speed who disengaged from pursuing the vehicle and occupants. Subsequently, the occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. The vehicle was recovered. The owner of the vehicle was contacted at which time it was verified that the vehicle had been stolen.
A 15-year-old Owen Sound male party later surrendered himself to the Owen Sound Police Service. The youth, who cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is currently facing several related offences for the theft of vehicles that are currently pending before the Courts.
The youth was held for a bail hearing on charges of Theft of a motor vehicle, Flight from Police, and (4) counts of Breach of Probation. A second Owen Sound 16 year old youth has been identified and arrangements have been made for the additional male to surrender to Police as well.
There were no injuries, no accident nor any damage to the stolen vehicle as a result of this incident.
