Hike for Hospice was held across the country this past Sunday to raise funds for hospice organizations that provide end of life care. This national once a year event is an important fundraiser for Residential Hospice of Grey Bruce who own and operate Chapman House. The event this year was a stunning success raising over $168,000 from 8 hike locations throughout Grey and Bruce.
This represents an over 250% increase in the amount of funds raised through this event compared to last year. Our local Hospice Fundraising Coordinator Anne Paterson said the support of hospice is incredible. She said, "the success of this year was due to tremendous support from an army of volunteers and team captains as well as the generosity of the individuals of Grey and Bruce counties.
New to this year was the tremendous support of the business community with almost 100 locally owned businesses supporting this event". "We are especially grateful this year for the level of support given the recent LHIN decision to fund a satellite hospice location in south Grey/Bruce. As the government funds only nursing salary costs we rely on the community to raise money for the funding shortfall which pays for things like food, supplies and upkeep. Everyone should know that 100% of their donation stays within Grey and Bruce and contributes to helping those in need who are at the end of their life".
