On Friday, June 1, Grey County is partnering with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) Lakeland District for a one-day event to discuss planning and health awareness for age-friendly communities. The event runs from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Grey County Administration Building, 595 9th Avenue East in Owen Sound.

This event will raise awareness and understanding about how aging people experience our communities, how they interact with services and spaces, and how their health changes their perspective of their environment. The session will be valuable to organizations providing services for seniors, municipal planning staff, elected officials, seniors and anyone interested in age-friendly communities.

Multiple expert speakers are lined up to speak about health awareness and age-friendly communities. Grey County planning staff will share findings of the recent Age-Friendly Community Study and other projects related to age-friendly communities. Chris Kawalec from the City of Peterborough will speak about incorporating age-friendly plans in municipal environments. Members of the Council on Aging Grey Bruce and the Hanover Age-Friendly Committee will discuss work they are doing locally. Other topics, such as fall-risk prevention and behavioural supports as a framework for care will also be discussed. A complete list of speakers can be found on the OPPI website.
