St. Mary's High School in Owen Sound is inviting the whole community to come June 5th from 4 until 7 to see what's going on at the school.
Ruby Moffat says "StangFest" - named for the school's Mustang mascot – is a student-led celebration "to showcase all the great work at the school". The grade eleven student said her business class (above) is helping co-ordinate the event, but almost all the students and many staff will be involved.
Project-based learning is at the heart of many of the high school courses. Participants will get a hands-on experience of what the students have been working on – from inter-active projects and social justice campaigns, to archery and a demonstration by the robotics club.
There will be live music and performances, games and prizes, and food of course, courtesy of the Food and Nutrition class. A marketplace will sell student-made crafts and products, including horse bridles, dog leashes and wood turning.
Families with younger children are particularly welcome to learn about the school community and the student experience at St. Mary's.
Students will be there to direct traffic for parking – (interesting side note: one class is working on a future re-design plan to make more efficient use of the school parking lot).
