A new resource explores community engagement as it applies to low income tenants living in county-owned rent-geared-to-income neighbourhoods. Spotlight on Grey Bruce: Community Building for Families highlights collaborative efforts and achievements as part of the community engagement process. The successes, challenges and lessons learned from local initiatives involving rent-geared-to-income neighbourhoods in Grey and Bruce Counties are highlighted.
Developed in partnership with Grey County, Bruce County, several community agencies and the Grey Bruce Health Unit, the resource offers service providers strategies to incorporate community engagement to influence health and well-being, reduces health disparities and support positive change.
Developing trusting partnerships within these neighbourhoods continues to be paramount in building community capacity and mobilizing community assets. By working together and aligning community resources, neighbourhood infrastructures have supported tenant participation, service delivery and social programming.
Collaborative committees in Grey and Bruce will continue to build on existing infrastructures and seek opportunities for shared action. Efforts to achieve more inclusive and welcoming neighbourhoods where individuals and families feel connected to one another and a stronger sense of belonging will remain a priority.
