A male, who was not accepting of his partner's wishes to slow down their new relationship, now faces several criminal charges.
Thursday afternoon, the 27-year-old female victim was at her residence in Owen Sound and asked the accused for time to re-think their relationship, which was less than a month old. The 26-year-old Owen Sound male became angry and pushed the victim onto the bed, grabbed her by her hair and struck her across the face. He then took a knife and held it to his own throat, threatening to commit suicide.
The victim was very lucky to have only sustained less serious injuries to her lip and cheek area that did not require medical attention. She was able to calm the male down and drove him to a local coffee shop, then came to the Owen Sound Police station to report the assault. Officers attended several locations within the city in an attempt to locate the male. When he was not located, the victim was taken to a place of safety.
At approximately 1:30 a.m. this morning the male was located downtown and arrested without incident. Subsequent to arrest he was found to be in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine.
The accused was taken to court this morning facing one count of Assault, one count of Weapons Dangerous, four counts of Breach of Probation, and one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance. He was remanded into custody until the 20th of October.
