The international “No smoking” and “No Vaping” symbols are required to be posted in any area where smoking/vaping is not permitted. Signs are available for pick up at Public Health or your local municipal office. There is no fee for the signs. Anyone who owns or occupies a place where smoking/vaping is not permitted are required to ensure the signs are properly posted.
All indoor workplaces and public places must have signs posted on all entrances and exits and washrooms. Signs should be posted at a level that is not obstructed and easy to see.
There are two options that can be used:
1. A no-smoking sign AND no-vaping sign (10 cm x 10 cm each), or
2. A dual non-smoking/non-vaping sign (15 cm x 20 cm)
If you have questions regarding where to post signs at your business or workplace, please contact the Tobacco, Vape and Cannabis Information line at 519-376-9420 Ext. 1211.
As of October 17, 2018, the Smoke-Free Ontario Act, 2017 (SFOA, 2017) replaced the previous Smoke-Free Ontario Act as well as the Electronic Cigarettes Act, 2015. The new Act regulates the sale, supply, use, display and promotion of both tobacco and vapour products while also regulating the smoking and vaping of cannabis. The Smoke-Free Ontario Act, 2017 protects everyone from second-hand smoke/vapour by regulating smoking in enclosed work places and public places and other outdoor areas.
