As one of the fifty Ontario wide municipalities who experienced a system’s error during open voting for the 2018 Municipal election, the Municipality of Meaford will be the recipient of a 20% discount from the service provider, Dominion Voting Systems.
On October 22, 2018 during the last hours of voting, members of the public experienced log-in disruptions, preventing voters from casting ballots. The Toronto based electoral system provider experienced an unapproved bandwidth limit from their internet provider, resulting in the Municipality of Meaford extending voting by one day.
The Municipality is set to receive a return of $3,400 from the overall $17,000 cost for using Dominion Voting Systems as our ballot and voting method.
“Clerks from the affected municipalities worked together and were able to negotiate a fair discount” said Clerk/Director of Legislative and Protective Services, Matt Smith. “I am happy to accept this refund on behalf of the Municipality of Meaford.”
