SOUTHGATE – On Sunday, November 2, 2014 at approximately 4:30 a.m., Grey County OPP was called to a residence on Southgate Sideroad 13 in the Township of Southgate, after a male had entered the residence and assaulted an occupant while he and other members of his family were asleep.
After assaulting the 22 year old male victim, the accused allegedly drank some beer, before leaving the scene in a vehicle. The victim suffered minor injuries.
While enroute to the scene, police observed the suspect vehicle, a 1998 Infinity, travelling northbound on Grey Rd. 14 and attempted to stop it. The vehicle continued at speeds well over the posted 80 km/hr speed limit. Police followed the vehicle until it came to a stop in a private laneway on Southgate Rd. 22, at which time the lone driver, the accused, exited the vehicle and was arrested for flight from police.
A 25-year-old man, of the Township of Southgate, faces the following charges:
- Break and Enter (CC)
- Assault (CC)
- Criminal Harassment (CC)
- Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer (CC)
- Impaired Driving and Over 80 mg (CC)
- Take Motor Vehicle Without Consent (CC)
- Uttering Threats (CC)
- Possession of Schedule I Substance – Cocaine (CDSA)
- Stunt Driving (HTA)
He was held in custody pending a bail hearing scheduled for today, Monday, November 3rd. His next court appearance is Thursday, December 4, 2014 in Owen Sound.
