On Thursday, March 7, Grey County planners and the Ontario Professional Planners Institute Lakeland District are hosting a celebration of planning in Grey County and Canada. 2019 marks the 100th anniversary of the Canadian Institute of Planners and 25 years of the Registered Professional Planner designation in Ontario. This free event begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Grey County Administration Building, 595 9th Avenue East in Owen Sound.
“Professional planners have an essential job that can often be overlooked and misunderstood,” said Grey County Warden Selwyn ‘Buck’ Hicks. “For 100 years these professionals have been creating policies and plans that look to the future, to allow our communities to grow in sustainable ways that protect the natural assets we treasure. On March 7 we are celebrating planning with an informative and interactive evening that will showcase what planners do and why it’s so important.”
The celebration will include a Planning 101 overview of what urban and rural planners do, why planning is important, the link between public health and planning, how planning shapes communities, heritage planning and more. Attendees will also participate in an interactive session where they can become the planner and apply the information they have learned.
Light refreshments will be provided. There is no cost to attend the event and no registration is required.
