Dr. Ann Gillies formally announces her intention to seek the nomination for the riding of Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound for the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC). The current MP, Larry Miller, recently announced he will not seek re-election.
“I’m grateful to Larry for his service for the past 15 years. I want to continue to be that strong voice for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound in Ottawa,” said Gillies.
Dr. Gillies announced her intention to run for nomination to replace Larry Miller to the local CPC Electoral District Board on January 19th.
Born and raised in Meaford, Ann currently resides in Dundalk with her husband, a local realtor and retired farmer. She is a mother of 6 and grandmother of 11.
“My father, the son of a commercial fisherman in Meaford, understood the value of hard work. He became a wheelsman on the great lake freighters at 16. Later, wanting to be closer to home, he worked for several years at the Meaford tank range, but his love for the water called and he spent the remainder of his working life wheeling the Chi Cheemaun. I feel blessed to have called Grey County my home all my life.”
Gillies has proven that through grit, courage, determination and her strong faith, that you can rise above some extremely difficult circumstances in life. She is determined to take that same tenacity to Ottawa
Over the last 20 years, Dr. Gillies has maintained a private counselling practice specializing in clients who have been subjected to severe trauma. She is also a former adjunct professor, author, keynote speaker, researcher, Pastor and Trauma Specialist.
Dr. Gillies understands what it means to serve others, not only through her profession but also in volunteer work, travelling into disaster areas to bring hope in crisis as well as debriefing doctors and nurses returning from war-ravaged countries.
“It is a joy and a privilege for me to serve others. I have seen first-hand what happens to countries where the government doesn’t listen to the people. I want to serve this riding and the good people who live here by being a strong advocate of issues that matter. Issues like health care access, border security, and less government intrusion into family,” Gillies added.
Dr. Gillies is passionate to help the most vulnerable, while also recognizing the need to pursue true Conservative values of fiscal accountability and the freedom of the individual including freedom of speech, worship, conscience and assembly.
“It is important to continue to have a representative in Ottawa who stands strong on Canada’s foundational values.”
