Bruce Grey Owen Sound Green Party of Canada EDA to host lunch and a panel discussion prior to acclamation of Danielle Valiquette and GPO/GPC AGMs on Saturday April 27, 2019 at Grey Roots in Owen Sound.
On Saturday April 27 at The Grey Roots Museum & Archives, Danielle Valiquette, a councillor for The Municipality of Grey Highlands, is expected to be acclaimed as the Green Party of Canada (GPC) candidate for Bruce Grey Owen Sound (BGOS).
“The BGOS Greens are organized and ready for this election. Our local EDA is a mature organization and our growing team of volunteers from across the riding are focused on opening up a variety of communication channels with constituents,” said Valiquette. And, thanks to this growing team, Valiquette is rising to the demands of being a new type of leader. “I am a good listener and will be a strong voice for the constituency. Things will be done differently, more collaboratively,” she said.
Valiquette said, “The Greens have a lot of momentum right now, and we are starting to feel it here, too. People across the riding, from across the political spectrum, are contacting us and saying that they are ready to go Green. They recognize the status quo isn’t a viable option any longer. The people of BGOS know we need to do politics differently. There’s a sense of urgency and a desire to seek creative solutions to tackle complex problems. We are the Party for change.”
But first, April 27 will be a full day for the nominee/candidate and her team as Valiquette and the BGOS Greens canvass at the Owen Sound Farmers’ Market in the morning. Activities for the kids are also planned, weather permitting.
The afternoon events kick-off at 12:30 with a lunch prepared by Fresh Roots Catering (CMHA) and followed by a speakers’ panel (1:30-3:00), including:
- a welcome ceremony from Saugeen Elder Shirley John;
- critical perspective from Teresa Pearson (Program Manager @ CMHA) and Jodi Koberinski (U Waterloo Action Researcher/Food Sovereignty Activist);
- a conversation between Ryan Hayhurst (BGOS Greens EDA) & Larisa Yurkiw (Canadian Olympian from Owen Sound)
- remarks from nominee Danielle Valiquette, followed by her acclimation vote
The Annual General Meeting portion of the day for the BGOS Greens (GPC/GPO) is planned to begin at 3:10 and run until 4 P.M.
“We have an opportunity to send a Green MP to Ottawa. It's exciting; we are energized and ready for the challenge.” said Valiquette.
The BGOS Greens are asking those who wish to attend the afternoon program at Grey Roots to please RSVP, email [email protected] or call Ryan at 519-362-1960.
