Competition was fierce in the essay contest for the honour of being Chief for a Day. Grade 5 students from all Owen Sound schools had the opportunity to write short essays about what they would do if they had a friend who started making bad life choices. According to Police Services, the response was tremendous.
While there were many great essays, the Home of the Alexandra Eagles is proud to announce that our very own Maddie Perry was selected for this special honour! As acting Chief, Maddie spent the day at the police station and on patrol with Constable Peddle, and enjoyed a very tasty business lunch. Her classmates joined her in the morning for the swearing in ceremony. Her first decision as Chief was to create a law that ensured that her classmates had a work-free afternoon. As an added bonus, her entire class will receive a pizza party.
Alexandra School would like to thank the Owen Sound Police Services for everything that they do to support the schools in our area. Their proactive work with the KIDS program, Chief for a Day Essay contest, the Community Safety Village and other initiatives helps our children to be properly informed and allows them to see our officers in a very positive light.
A special thank you to Constable Craig Peddle for going far above and beyond the call of duty here at Alexandra School and for the special connection that he develops with our students. His presence in our school, his effective approach and his genuine warmth, have had a significant influence on our young people as they learn to walk a ‘good path’ in life. What a great ambassador for the Owen Sound Police.
