The Owen Sound Police Service will be conducting an enforcement blitz on drivers who block traffic at signalized intersections.
While enforcement will focus on the problem area of the downtown intersections along 10th Street, enforcement may occur at any signalized intersection.
Before entering into an intersection, it is the driver's responsibility to monitor and assess traffic flow and volume to ensure that their vehicle is able to clear the intersection before the traffic light turns red.
Too often, impatient or inattentive drivers enter into intersections with slow or stopped traffic flow and become stuck in the intersection on a red light, impeding traffic and pedestrian flow from the intersecting roadway.
Under Owen Sound city By-Law 2009-075, it is an offence to block an intersection and carries a fine of $105.
