Please be advised that rehabilitation work on Sykes Street Bridge will be extended into October 2019. As a result of weather delays and additional repair work discovered once the structure was exposed, the expected completion date of the work is now October 31, 2019.
However, construction work will cease and two (2) lanes of traffic will be open during the weekend of the Apple Harvest Craft Show and Scarecrow Parade (October 4 to October 6) to help improve traffic flows during this busy time.
Two (2) lanes of traffic will be open across the bridge beginning the evening of Thursday, October 3. On the morning of Monday, October 7 the bridge will once again be reduced to a single lane until the completion of the work. The road surface will be uneven at this time and motorist are advised to slow down. Bump warning signs will be installed.
The new watermain under the bridge has been installed and we are currently waiting on the results of the water testing before connecting to the Municipal System. Once water testing and storm sewer repairs are complete the excavations at the ends of the bridge will be backfilled and prepared for traffic.
We thank you for your continued patience during the final stages of this project.
