chi cheemaunOn April 23, the Grey County Young Professional’s Network is taking to the waters of Georgian Bay to host their largest networking event ever. Attendees will have the opportunity to make new connections, enjoy live local music all while cruising the bay aboard the MS Chi-Cheemaun. The event runs from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tickets are just $25 and can be purchased at www.ypn-chicheemaun.eventbrite.ca

“The Young Professionals Network helps younger adults, we say 20 to 40-years-old(ish), make personal connections with the people, places and experiences that make our region great,” explains Savanna Myers, director of economic development, tourism and culture with Grey County. “Grey County is a fantastic place to live, work and raise a family, but we know it can be intimidating and difficult to meet new people in rural communities.”

The Grey County Young Professional Network (YPN) makes connecting easier. YPN offers a blend of formal and casual networking in a safe and welcoming environment. Optional activities like speed dating and simple ice breakers help get conversations started. The casual, fun atmosphere throughout the evening creates a low-stress setting allowing attendees to keep the conversations going and socialize over shared interests and experiences.

“YPN events are as much a professional party as they are a business event, explains Myers. “We want attendees to meet new people and make connections, but we aren’t going to pressure anyone into doing anything too uncomfortable. If you want to come to YPN and collect a bunch of business cards that’s great. If you want to come out and meet some new people and enjoy the party, that’s okay too.”

In addition to business networking and socializing, YPN events are great for learning more about our communities and all the different activities and opportunities that are available. Grey County tourism staff are on hand to share details about local attractions and experiences from major festivals to hidden gems. Information is also available about community resources, clubs, hobby groups and more.

The Grey County Young Professional’s Network launched in 2018 as an initiative for retaining young people in the region. Over the first two years, events have been held in Owen Sound, Thornbury, Meaford, Georgian Bluffs and Hanover. Feedback from events has been positive and attendees have expressed an interest in even more ways to connect.

A new Facebook group has been created to help keep young professionals connected and informed between official YPN events. Any young professional from the area can join the group to stay informed of the latest YPN news, local events and activities of interest. Join the group at www.facebook.com/groups/GreyCountyYPN/ or by searching Grey County Young Professional’s Network on Facebook.
