In response to the Province of Ontario’s COVID-19 mitigation measures, the Owen Sound Dog Park is closed until further notice.

Signage has been placed on site at the Dog Park and the gates have been locked by City Staff.

The COVID-19 virus can survive outdoors in the current weather conditions. As weather conditions change, the City will consult with Grey Bruce Public Health respecting the effect on the virus on outdoor facilities.

City Staff will continue to engage and work alongside Public Health Officials to take appropriate measures as necessary.

Effective today at 4:30 pm, the two municipal dog parks, in Oliphant and Wiarton’s Dan Davidson, will be closed.

We continue to see people who are not social distancing and self-isolating. We understand that people want to exercise and staying home can be difficult, but these measures are mandatory. During this pandemic, our parks cannot be used as places to gather.

As of 4:30pm, anyone who is found using the dog parks, playgrounds or skatepark is committing an offence and can be charged with trespassing. At this time, we have not closed the remainder of our municipal parks as we will continue to monitor them for compliance. We truly hope we won’t have a need to close all parks but will do so if social distancing is not observed.

In a directive from the Solicitor General and the Minister of Municipal Affairs, we are reminded that:
“It is an offence to fail to comply with an emergency order, or to obstruct any person acting pursuant to such an order”.

In an attempt to reduce the spread of COVID19 in South Bruce Peninsula, everyone must be extra vigilant. Please don’t underestimate this crisis.
