The long weekend in May traditionally kicks off the summer season for many, but it looks very different this year as we continue to navigate this unprecedented situation. Happily, some restrictions like the fire ban have been revised, others like the Blue Dolphin pool, beaches, and playgrounds are more challenging to reopen in compliance with the safety protocols needed to protect the community and our staff. As always, the health and safety of our community remains our top priority, and as we continue to plan for economic and operational recovery, this will guide our decisions.

I am so proud of how folks have stepped up to this challenge by following the guidelines of social distancing, hand washing, and staying home. Thanks to these efforts, our Health Unit reports only one confirmed case of Covid-19 in Meaford, and no deaths related to the virus in all of the Grey Bruce area. These measures are working, and this truly exceptional community effort continues to keep us safe.

We so appreciate the patience, the kindness, and creative thinking that we have seen throughout this pandemic. Many of our residents have found new ways to connect with family and friends, and interesting ways to fill their days, with technology bridging the distance. Our staff have been coming up with fun and creative activities you can take part in from home such as the “nailed or failed” cooking challenge, to show off your home baking skills. There is a coast-to-coast walking program sponsored by the Meaford Library where you can add your steps to the community total as Meaford treks - virtually - across the country from Newfoundland to British Colombia. “Live it Live” is a special local music series to enjoy that is livestreamed on facebook courtesy of Meaford Hall.
