covid testThere was a case of COVID-19 in West Grey reported to Public Health on July 03, 2020. The Infectious Disease Team at the Grey Bruce Health Unit completed the required Case and Contact Management as per public health protocols, and ensured all close contacts are safe and acting appropriately to prevent further transmission. This was completed within 24 hours from the report.

The Grey Bruce Health Unit contacted all close contacts, and is managing their isolation, as required. At this time, there is no need for the pubic to be concerned. If an individual was not contacted by Public Health, there is no need for the individual to be concerned.

“I would like to reassure the public and employers that Public Health conducts outbreak investigations, and manages outbreaks in the community on a regular basis.” says Grey Bruce Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Ian Arra. “If there was potential risk of transmission, full response and control is implemented. The lack of hospitalization and death shows the high success rate of our outbreak management.”

It has come to our attention that a number of individuals presented at a local assessment centre wrongly claiming that they were directed to the assessment centre by Public Health. Such action has the potential of introduce bias in the lab data. Ontario provincial government made testing widely available to all. A person does not need to falsely claim direction from Public Health to access testing.
