MP Larry Miller Supports Extended Mission against ISIL
Ottawa, ON - Today, the Rt. Honourable Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada, announced that the Government will be bringing a motion before the House of Commons to seek Parliamentary support to extend and expand the current military operation against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). Larry Miller, MP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, announced that he will support this motion when it is brought before the House of Commons.
The Prime Minister stated that the motion will extend Operation IMPACT for up to 12
months (until March 30th, 2016). The mandate of the operation would also be expanded to authorize Canada's CF-188 Hornet fighters to join Coalition partners in attacking ISIL targets within Syrian territory.
"After direct threats made against Canada, as well as radicalized attacks on Canadian soil, it is clear that the capabilities of ISIL must be degraded," said Miller. "I am very proud of the work that is currently being carried out by members of the Canadian Armed Forces who are already engaged in Operation IMPACT. I give my full support to these brave men and women as they continue to fight to keep us safe."
Operation IMPACT is part of the United States-led international Coalition against ISIL. The Coalition is comprised of over 60 countries with the goal of significantly degrading the capabilities of ISIL.
