The mock outrage from the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) over an early election shows how much they are counting on the electorate's short memory.

The first notable Conservative ad in their social media, which some of their own MPs have already called “dumb” and “embarassing”, says Liberals are intent on calling an early election only because they want a majority. Apparently, this offends the Conservative sensibilities, channeling Stephen Harper in 2006 - “fixed election dates prevent governments from calling snap elections for short-term political gain.”

The year after Harper “fixed” those election dates? – he called an early election.

We don't need an election this year. There is no vote of non-confidence. Everyone has agreed the focus needs to be on the predicted fourth wave of Covid-19.  Regardless, we will be going to the polls September 20.

But please, Conservatives, tell us your plans, what you have to offer, tell us why Erin O'Toole would make a good Prime Minister.

Do not expect us to believe your story over what we can see with our own eyes – that you did exactly what the Liberals are doing, When you had majority governments, you took your full four years. When you had minority governments, you went to the polls early – once by your own choice, and once after a vote of contempt of parliament and non-confidence.
