tarpperson

- by Rob Leonard

On my way to work this morning and as I was turning onto Barrie Rd I see a tarp between the sidewalk and bushes obviously wrapped around a person.I was saddened and then that sadness turned to anger. I asked myself "how can a country claim greatness when our people are covered in a tarp, sleeping in the bushes because they have nowhere else to go. No place to call home?

How can a country claim greatness when thousands upon thousands of our brothers, sisters and their children are sleeping in tents because they can't afford a place to call home? How can a country filled with rich multi million and billion dollar corporations sleep at night knowing that the money they make in an hour could possibly house a person or family for a year or more if they truly cared?

I see it every day in this city and it seems to be growing at an alarming rate. But it's not just here in Orillia, it's everywhere across this country. Don't you dare blame one political party for this atrocity. This has been growing for sometime and has gotten so much worse in the past few years.Whether you like it or not We Are Our Brothers' and Sisters' Keepers.

We need to stand together and tell all three levels of government to end this crime against humanity occurring in what they like to refer to as one of the greatest countries in the world. All three levels of government across this country should be ashamed of what they've allowed to happen to our most vulnerable and for that matter our every day citizens of this so called great country.

If you truly want to be great then fix this now. No matter what it takes you need to fix this now. If you can't offer a hand up to your own people then what good are you to the rest of the world? There is a solution and it's up to us, the citizens of Canada, to demand those solutions. NOW
