Paisley, Ontario is slated to lose its only school in June 2018.
Placed under Accommodation Review by the Bluewater District School Board (BWSDB) in a 4-3 vote, the rural community has very little time to prepare to contest this review, with the first public meeting scheduled for November 8, 2016.
Support Paisley Central School (SPCS) is a group of more than 230 residents, business owners and parents ready to take action against the BWDSB and provide just cause for the sole community school to remain open.
Enrolment and building conditions are cited as the reasons for the review, and upon further research, SPCS has found vast differences in the numbers and costs associated with the closure. This group is prepared to fight in tandem for their school and their community's survival.
BWSDB has projected renovation and maintenance costs significantly higher than those researched by the SPCS group. The Bruce Power Refurbishment Project is creating thousands of jobs, therefore new families will be flooding the area. With new business and at least two new subdivisions planned for the small town, enrolment at Paisley Central is poised to rise in the very near future. In addition, the in-house Kids N' Us daycare provides a natural transition for these children to also join the JK-8 student body.
