My take on the proposed park land sale by Owen Sound.

We all have a responsibility to advocate for habitat preservation, and there is a chance to do so in regard to the proposed sale of parkland in Owen Sound. City council appear to be basing their decision on how much people in the area use the park when there are other far more reaching things to consider.

We have to remind ourselves that we humans are just one species in the whole scheme of things and that we rely (in ways we yet don’t truly understand) on a properly functioning natural ecosystem. Things are currently to the point that biologists are begging us to leave road margins and medians alone so that other species already stressed by climate change can survive and we are not even doing that.

Please do not be influenced by the fact that it is a small piece of land. Not only does it set a precedent for future sale of other important habitat but basically what is being proposed is wrong. This is such a simple matter that even a child can understand the issue and it will be them who will ultimately suffer the most.
