Green Party of Ontario Leader and MPP for Guelph, Mike Schreiner, issued the following statement on the recall of the legislature:
"The Premier is failing to lead the province while he is focused on being mayor of Toronto.
Ontario just experienced its biggest one month job loss in a decade. But instead of recalling the Legislature to address real problems, the Premier is bringing MPPs back to grant him the authority to create more chaos.
It is wrong for the Premier to attack our fundamental charter rights for political gain. It shows just how far this Premier is willing to go to achieve his personal agenda.
The Premier's strong arm tactics—ripping up contracts, spending millions on lawyers, undermining local democracy—are not working. He is bringing a dangerous view of democracy to Queen's Park, predicated on his belief that he can rule by decree.
Ford believes that by winning a majority government, he is above the law. And this is wrong. No one is above the law. And playing games with the Constitution to appear tough is dangerous and bad for the people of Ontario.
I am asking the Premier and his caucus to consider the real world consequences of their decisions. I'm asking PC MPPs to put the people before their leader's petty political games."
