hydro linesGreen Party Leader Mike Schreiner released the following statement after it was revealed the province is spending an additional $1.56 billion per year to keep hydro rates stable:

“Ford’s promise to clean up the hydro mess is turning out to be a failed slogan.

The Conservatives inherited one of the most costly band-aids in Ontario history, but instead of cancelling the UnFair Hydro Plan, they’re dumping more money into it.

These subsidies disproportionately benefit wealthy, high-electricity users, racking up massive future costs that the FAO once pegged at $93 billion over three decades.

The fiscally responsible solution is to provide hydro bill relief to people with low-income and modest incomes who need the help the most.

We need an honest conversation about the state of hydro, not promises that cannot be met.”
