Alex Ruff, the Member of Parliament for Bruce – Grey – Owen Sound released the following statement following the news that Erin O’Toole has become the new leader of the Conservative Party of Canada:
“I want to extend my full congratulations to my friend Erin O’Toole on his victory in becoming the Leader of Her Majesty’s Official Opposition. I am proud to have stood beside him and supported him in his campaign to become leader of the Conservative Party of Canada. I wholeheartedly would like to thank the record number of Conservative voters that participated in the leadership race and to all the organizers and volunteers that made this election possible despite COVID-19. Further, I’d like to recognize all the leadership candidates: Dr Leslyn Lewis, the Honourable Peter MacKay and Derek Sloan for putting their names forward and running their own great campaigns.
“Mr. O’Toole put forward insightful, positive, and forward-thinking proposals that inspired Conservatives with his vision for the future of Canada. I know all Conservatives will unite behind our new leader, and I’m confident come the next federal election Canadians will choose Erin as the next Prime Minister of Canada.
“I’m proud to welcome Mr. O’Toole as the leader of Her Majesty’s Official Opposition and look forward to working with him on behalf of our great country and all Canadians. I am excited to taking our seats together when Parliament resumes on 23 September 2020.
