On September 25, 2020 at 5:33 p.m., Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor vehicle collision involving a (white) van on Grey Road 3, near Grey Road 5, in the Township of Georgian Bluffs. The driver entered the ditch, but was able to get the vehicle unstuck and left the scene prior to police arrival.
Police patrolled the area and located the involved vehicle at a commercial property. The driver failed a roadside screening device and was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and was transported to the Grey Bruce OPP detachment in Chatsworth. A breath test, conducted by a Qualified Breath Technician, recorded readings over the legal limit of 80 milligrams (mg) of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
As a result of this investigation, Grey Bruce OPP have charged a 26-year-old Owen Sound man with the following offences;
Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol, section 320.14(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada (CC)
Operation while impaired with blood alcohol concentration 80 mgs or more, section 320.14(1)(b) CC
Fail to remain, section 200(1)(a) Highway Traffic Act
The accused driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was towed and will be impounded for seven days. They were released on an Undertaking and are required to attend Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on October 29, 2020.
