An investigation by Hanover Police into an anonymous complaint about a suspicious pickup truck on March 22nd has culminated in the execution of a search warrant on a property just east of Hanover in West Grey on Friday, March 25th, 2022, and the seizure of a loaded semi-automatic pistol and a sawed-off shotgun.

Officers from the Hanover Police Service with assistance of members of the West Grey Police Service and OPP K-9 from Wellington County jointly conducted the search on a rural property east of Hanover. In addition to the seizure of two firearms, one restricted – one prohibited (see attached), police also recovered a stolen snow vehicle and a stolen pickup truck.

Kodie Hearsum, a 34-year-old West Grey man, was arrested and later remanded into custody at the Central North Correctional Centre in Penetanguishene pending his next court appearance by video on March 28th. He faces numerous criminal charges including:

Possession of Loaded Restricted Firearm” – s. 95(a) CC
Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm” – s. 91(1) CC x 2 counts
Carless storage of a firearm” – s. 86(1) CC x 2 counts
Possession of Stolen Property Over $5,000” – s. 354(1)(a) CC
Possession of Stolen Property Under $5,000” – s. 354(1)(a) CC
Fail to Comply with Undertaking” – s. 145(4)(a) CC x 3 counts

What started as an anonymous call from a concerned citizen about an abandoned truck has resulted in the seizure of two dangerous firearms.” Hanover Deputy Chief George Hebblethwaite added, “This investigation exemplified good intuitive police work and is an example of the dedication all officers have to the safety and security of the public we serve.”
