A driver has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act after an unsafe passing movement In front of a Grey Bruce OPP officer.
On December 19, at approximately 1:15 p.m., a Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was sitting stationary in front of the Chatsworth OPP detachment observing for a motor vehicle that was identified in a traffic complaint.
The officer observed the motor vehicle attempt to pass multiple vehicles as it was entering the Town of Chatsworth. Due to the road and weather conditions, the driver was unable to safely complete the passing movement, which resulted in a near head on collision.
A traffic stop was conducted, and as a result a 20-year-old driver from Toronto is facing the following charges:
- Careless driving
- Obstruct plate
The Grey Bruce OPP would like to remind motorists to drive according to the road and weather conditions. Snow covered roads require more stopping distance and have reduced traction. A passing maneuver is not worth putting the lives of other motorists at risk, and the Grey Bruce OPP will continue to enforce legislation regarding these unsafe driving habits.
