The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are asking motorists to stay home and avoid travel.

On December 23 many counties across Southwestern Ontario, including Grey and Bruce counties, were hit with an extreme weather event. This event saw emergency responders fielding hundreds of calls for service across the area and triaging stranded motorists and other weather-related events throughout the night and into today.

The Grey Bruce OPP has received several concerning complaints regarding motorists passing and driving around snow removal crews in an unsafe manner, sometimes in whiteout conditions. These unsafe driving maneuvers put everyone at risk, and they are completely unacceptable.

We are asking that you please drive according to the road and weather conditions if you have to travel. Plan ahead for unexpected delays, and keep in mind that many roads still remained closed throughout Southwestern Ontario, and you may not be able to reach your destination.

We would also like to remind our communities that several municipalities and townships have by-laws prohibiting parking on roadways during certain time periods. It is essential that these by-laws are adhered to, to allow our snow removal crews to clear roadways. We thank you in advance for your continued efforts to assist everyone during this time.
