On June 15th, 2023 at about 12:00pm, members of the Community Oriented Response and Enforcement Unit (CORE) observed a driver perform a stunt with his pick up truck at an eastside location.  As a result of the investigation a 19yr old Owen Sound resident was charged with Race a Motor Vehicle under the Highway Traffic Act.  The driver had his driver’s licence suspended immediately for a mandatory period of 30 days, as well as his motor vehicle impounded for 14 days.  The male will appear in court on July 26, 2023.

As it is his first offence, if convicted the driver will face a minimum fine of $2000.00 and up to $10000.00, a driver’s licence suspension of between 1-3 years, 6 demerit points, up to 6 months in jail and will be required to take a mandatory driver improvement course.

As of September 2021 the laws for race a motor vehicle / stunt driving applies to specified places which include any parking lot, beach, park, bike path or trail, farm field or sports field.  The offence is also arrestable under the Highway Traffic Act.
