OS-Police-cuffsMale arrested and charged in Synagogue vandalism.

On May 9th, 2018 just before 7:00am a male suspect wrote anti-Semitic, threatening messages on a door of the Synagogue in Owen Sound. Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Branch and Intelligence Unit continued the investigation. Video footage was immediately obtained of the accused committing the offence; however he was unable to be identified at the time. Assistance was sought from police services throughout Ontario and Detectives from the Toronto Police, Intelligence Services, were able to identify the accused.

On June 17th, 2018 Toronto Police located and arrested the male on behalf of the Owen Sound Police Service. The accused has no known connections to Owen Sound and was only in the City for a few days. After committing the offence, the accused fled the City and returned to Toronto.

A 60 year old male from Toronto has been charged with the following offences;

* Mischief Relating to Religious Property

* Uttering Threats

The Toronto man appeared in Court today (June 18th, 2018) in Owen Sound. He was remanded in custody and will reappear in Court tomorrow (June 19th, 2018) for a bail hearing.

Acting Detective Sergeant Daniels stated "This criminal act of intolerance unsettled our community and is unacceptable. We appreciate the efforts of the Toronto Police Service to work with us in identifying the accused".
